The Oregon TRIO Association is excited to announce the first-ever Civic Leadership Conference, hosted at Willamette University and the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, OR.
This two-day event (June 7-8, 2024) aims to empower 125 TRIO students from across Oregon by providing them with hands-on experience in a legislative simulation, fostering their understanding of civic leadership and their ability to positively impact local and state governments.
The House Civics and Education office will present “Civics at the Capitol,” produced by education professionals for classrooms and at-home learners to explore the Oregon Legislative Processes. This program offers an in-depth dive into the unique Oregon process of how ideas go through the process to become law in our great state! Through immersing themselves in this simulated legislative environment, participants will gain invaluable insights into the workings of government and develop critical leadership skills that will serve them well in their future endeavors. We also will be inviting active legislators to present and work with students through the weekend.
Registration is now open and free for Oregon TRIO programs with a paid 2024 membership (this includes overnight accommodation and all four meals during the event). Programs can reserve tickets and recruit students to attend now, OTA will collect the roster of students about 10 days out from the event. For a tentative agenda, please see below.
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
